9/26/26 Weekly Review
week of: 9/20/26 - 9/26/26
studio strokes count: 7
Did I reflect on any particular Scripture or aspect of God’s character while in the studio this week?
I’m working through Garden to Glory by Courtney Doctor. I’ve been thinking a lot about Jesus taking the curse of sin onto his physical body through the crown of thorns. And how what was meant to be a mockery affirmed Jesus as our Suffering Savior (Isaiah 53) and our conquering Messiah King (Revelation 22). What a blessing it is to reflect on what Jesus did, is doing, and will do for us.
What did I make?
Nature rubbings and sketches from those rubbings. (Exercise from Chloe Briggs’ Foundation class)
What art-related books, podcasts, or videos did I consume, and what was one takeaway?
Loomis Eye of the Painter and The Unknown Matisse.
I’m enjoying reading about design principles and composition in the Loomis book. I feel like little by little these concepts are making more sense in my head.
The Loomis book has been talking a lot about simplifying, which ties in well with the Chloe Briggs exercise of doing nature rubbings, and then making a “transcription” of those focusing on what’s essential to capture the essence of the object. What was my “art outing”? How did it go?
Walking around the back yard to collect materials and inspiration for my nature rubbings. It was nice just to spend some time outdoors.
What do I want to work on this coming week?
I’m feeling creatively “clogged”… struggling to get in a groove with studio time and feeling a little overwhelmed with work, church commitments, and extended family things. I’m praying about how to better manage my time and if there’s anything else I need to change. I know there’s an element of being patient with myself, because we’ve recently started volunteering for some new things at church, and are settling into new community s. So I know it’ll take a little bit to settle into new routines.
I know the biggest thing is to keep my eyes on working on all things for God’s glory, and to keep going in the face of discouragement.
Lord, please help me.
