10/10/26 Weekly Review

week of: Sunday 10/4/26 - Saturday 10/10/26

studio strokes count: 15

  1. Did I reflect on any particular Scripture or aspect of God’s character while in the studio this week?

My Bible study lesson focused on what it means to be a kingdom of priests. I’m so thankful that the Lord has given me the desire to use art to reflect His character, share His love with others, and use the quiet time that my hands are busy to pray and meditate on His Word.

  2. What did I make?

I made a birthday card for a friend, did some of the exercises from my Foundations Drawing Class, and started a painting.

  3. What art-related books, podcasts, or videos did I consume, and what was one takeaway?

Still reading The Unknown Matisse. And I watched the latest video from Sandi Hester. As I’m watching people experiment with new supplies, I want to remember to slow down and think about whether that supply is a good investment for me right now… or if it’s just a distraction.

Since I’m earlier in my art journey than most of the YouTubers I watch, I just can’t handle working in as many different mediums as they can. And I’m very conscious of my monthly spending money (~$150/month right now). I want to use it strategically to move my practice forward. So I’m trying to keep my spending on experimental supplies pretty limited.

BUT! I did just get my new Neoarts in the mail… but that’s a purchase I’ve been contemplating for months!

  4. What was my “art outing”? How did it go?

No art outing this week, but I’m happy with the time I spent painting.

  5. What do I want to work on this coming week?

    Plan for next week:
Sunday (10/11) - Chill day with Nick
Monday - Drawing (Foundations booklet 1)
Tuesday - Drawing (Foundations workshop #1)
Wednesday - Drawing with new Neoarts/ recording new video
    Thursday - Painting
Friday - Drawing at Meemaw’s (maybe exercise from Foundations booklet 2)
Saturday (10/17) - Drawing (in the morning at Meemaw’s/ in the car)

practice patterns (for reference):

In Studio

  • Classes/ workshops (at least 1 day/ week)

  • Still life (keep one setup to keep revisiting) or practice from PKR/ Still (website) photos

  • Art walks/ info gathering (at least 1 per week)

Yard/ Neighborhood Walks

  • Info gathering outside - focus on contour drawings and color notes

  • Figuring out what materials I like on location

On Location

  1. Gather info with different mediums on small, loose leaf pages (keep these in folders by location)

  2. Use info from loose leaf pages to experiment with sketches in sketchbooks

  3. Use sketches to create more “finished” pieces, if desired
