9/13/26 Weekly Review
week of: September 6 - 13, 2026 (Saturday to Sunday)
(Missed last week… I got off my game with the Labor Day holiday and Meemaw being in town.)
studio strokes count: ~4 (oops, forgot to count)
Did I reflect on any particular Scripture or aspect of God’s character while in the studio this week?
In a frail and dying world, thank God we have a living Savior to rely on and live for. (From JC Ryle’s commentary on Luke)
I bought flowers at the grocery store to practice drawing and painting, and of course, they’re dying and not looking so good anymore. Watching life fade, whether it’s from flowers or aging friends and family, makes me so thankful for our living Savior and the future we have to look forward to with Him.What did I make?
Quick sketches, and I missed a few days. I’m feeling stuck right now… I’m trying to get some breathing room with my Bible study prep and Mapped Out Money work. And it’s led to me being cutting studio time.
My goal this week is to be diligent with my wake up and bedtime. Consistency with this is key in not falling behind on my responsibilities. When I do a little bit everyday, I gain traction in all areas and can enjoy studio time. When I skip a day, I have piles of laundry in the living room, I’m behind on video editing, and I’m stressed about my lack of prep for Bible study.
Lord, please help me work diligently for Your glory in all these areas. Amen. What art-related books, podcasts, or videos did I consume, and what was one takeaway?
Still reading The Unknown Matisse and Eye of the Painter. And I listened to Aimee Erickson’s interview on the Plein Air podcast. It was a good reminder that stretching our comfort zone is good, but I need to be careful about doing it too much and getting overwhelmed.
By the grace of God, my comfort zone is expanding in a lot of areas right now - involvement with youth, helping lead my ladies’ Bible study, and recording videos of my art journey. I need to be careful not to strive in my own strength, and my art practice is no exception.
So I’m trying to push myself to learn and experiment, but I also need to give myself the freedom to play with no pressure. What was my “art outing”? How did it go?
No art outing this week. But I’m going to put a small sketching bag together right now…
Done! And it’s by the door ready for my next walk. What do I want to work on this coming week?
