questions:

What were my goals last quarter and how did they go?

  • Glorify God through the documentation of my art journey on YT & blog.

    • I got everything moved from Straw Hat Creative to Oak & Clay

    • Created Oak & Clay logo

    • I started filming, editing, and uploading videos to YouTube, but I delayed publishing so I can build up a reservoir.

    • The blog is just going to be weekly reviews… trying to keep things manageable.

    • I also got my website setup and looking a lot better, and better articulated my “About” page.

    • And I setup my YouTube channel profile and description.

  • Learn diligently so that I can better reflect God’s beauty, goodness, and Truth.

    • Learned a lot from artist biographies/ observing modern artists I admire: overcome fear of man, keep your head down and keep working, you can’t exhaust a subject.

    • Got my studio setup and functional, so I can be more consistent with my practice.

What am I learning about how I like to make art?

Consistency is key… otherwise all the mental junk builds up in my head and it feels like a huge hurdle to get started. The soft body acrylics in a tupperware container are working really well to be able to get into and out of painting quickly.

How are my “Practice Patterns” going? (On location, in studio, yard/ walks)

I had not articulated these yet last quarter… just starting to implement them now.

Last quarter was mostly focused on setting up my studio and working towards a consistent practice. It was a lot of projects/ setup and figuring out how to get started. I stretched my comfort zone, especially with filming myself while doing art.

Is there anything new I want to try?

On location note-taking.

What materials or classes do I want to buy?

Neoarts. Acrylic gouache. PKR masterclasses… not sure how I want to prioritize these yet.
Will be paying ~$30/ month for the drawing foundations classes from Chloe Briggs.

What isn’t working, and what do I want to do about it?

Nick and I had a lot of inconsistency in our schedule last quarter. Some of it was unavoidable (dealing with extended family health issues), but some of it was rooted in emotional coping (like staying up late to watch a movie because I’m feeling down, which throws off my schedule the next day). I really want to focus on maintaining good routines and be ruthless about keeping my studio time this quarter.

What’s my skill focus for next quarter?

Drawing Foundations!

Getting comfortable working in public.

Enjoying how I paint with the skills that I currently have. (Remember Peggi’s mindset: “I’m not there yet, but I will be.” -PKR)

What are my 1-3 goals for next quarter?

  • Glorify God through my art practice by sharing on YouTube (biweekly starting Oct. 2nd) and in my studio journal (weekly review).

  • Enjoy God’s gift of creativity by logging at least 3 studio strokes 5 days/ week. (1 stroke = 30 minutes)

  • Learn diligently from Chloe Briggs’ “Nature” block - including live calls - so that I can better reflect God’s beauty, goodness, and Truth.

Tentative studio schedule:

  • monday - drawing (foundations)

  • tuesday - play/ PKR Patreon lesson

  • wednesday - outing (nature reserve, boats, walk, yard)

  • thursday - play/ PKR Patreon lesson

  • friday - drawing (foundations)

  • saturday - still life

  • sunday - play/ PKR Patreon lesson
